This is one she has both written and illustrated and it is a winner. It has a sweetness and humor that make an old tale delightful reading.

The illustrations are a different style from the aforementioned, but lovely and refreshing. First Line: "Just the other day, Grandfather Panda was talking to his grandson.

Sep 05, Lynn Davidson rated it really liked it Shelves: reviewed , picture-books. A little panda loves to play, and his mother teaches him through play how to take care of himself.

One day, while his mother is getting food, the panda cub awakens from a nap to see that danger has found him. Amusing ending and fabulous illustrations.

Sep 19, Paul Candeias rated it it was ok Shelves: family , motivation. I enjoyed this book, mostly for the lessons it teaches about listening to parents and dealing with danger.

Bao Bao mother told him to find a better tree but he didn't listen to her is an example of how teachers can take that and turn it around to instill to children that it is important to listen to their parents.

And when the tiger begins to chase Bao Bao and he runs, that can be used to teach that sometimes when in danger the best thing to do is to just run away.

Lesson: A good lesson I would I enjoyed this book, mostly for the lessons it teaches about listening to parents and dealing with danger.

That lesson could be used to help teach listening to the children as they have to listen to the instructions of the teacher. Then you could even include a direction that says "Panda says run away from danger!

A grandfather tells his grandson a story about a baby panda that loves to sleep in his favorite tree even though it really is too small for him.

One day when his mother travels far to find bamboo for dinner the little panda is in his too-small tree. While his mother is gone a tiger sneaks up on the panda baby and climbs his too-small tree.

The small panda climbs higher and higher but he eventually falls out of the tree, causing the tiger to go flying from the springing branch.

A sweet story. Children might find it hard to understand that the tiger went flying because the weight of the panda was holding down the branch he was on.

When the panda fell the branch bounced back into place sending the tiger flying through the air. Shelves: childrens-picture-books. I really loved The Quiet Book and was so excited when I found that the illustrator, Liwska, had also authored and illustrated this book.

While "Little Panda" doesn't shine quite as much as "The Quiet Book" it is still full of absolutely adorable artwork I love the tiger! Jun 01, Kristen rated it really liked it Shelves: childrens , picture-books.

This could've been an ordinary story of the lessons a little panda learned from his mama, but the dialogue and art give it such warmth and gentle character that it comes off as snug and dear, not sticky-sweet.

The book-ending parts of the grandfather and the little panda are charming, too, and nicely frame the story. Sep 01, Whirl Girl rated it really liked it Shelves: china , top-five.

The animal books are always a big hit with The Whirl Girl, and we had to have a panda book for China. I liked how this showed the natural life of a panda, but still had enough of a story for The Whirl Girl to enjoy it.

Pretty much any story of a mama and her child are popular in our house and this one had just the right amount of suspense without being scary.

Oct 14, Rachael rated it really liked it Shelves: kids-books. So cute. So very very cute. I think the story was also fairly well done, if not exactly enthralling, but I was distracted by the fact that the little panda was so adorable.

I loved the way this book looked and all the different elements. The National Geographic organization does a fantastic job. I was excited to see that there was a Table of Contents in the beginning.

If you are a child doing a specific research project, a Table of Contents would be very helpful. The photographs were beautiful and made me excited to learn more about Pandas.

They had diagrams explaining the body of a Panda. They had facts and used numerical values when they explained how long and how big a Panda can be.

The words were factual, but still easy to read for children. Even though this is considered an informational book, they were able to throw in some humor.

On some of the pages, they was a joke in the corner. It wasn't just the words on the page, they had extra features. I feel like that is definitely post-modernism.

This book talks about the country of China. It is cool that children can be learning about an animal, but it also helps to learn more about a culture and what China looks like.

It talked about how it rains a lot and there are mountains. In this case, the more information the better!

You also can look at the top right corner of the book's cover to see what reading level it is. This book is Level 2. I loved this book! My favorite animal has always been the Giant Panda.

As a child, I would always check out books like this at the library. It was very informational and goes over a ton of facts.

I would recommend any National Geographic Kids books. They do a wonderful job with the content and the photographs.

My favorite part is when it talks about the Panda Baby Boom. It's exciting to hear that there are cubs being born. We don't want this beautiful animal to go extinct.

Apr 12, Demi rated it it was amazing. The following book is cute informational book that goes through basic information on the giant panda. Some of the content includes the basic features that distinguish a panda from other bears, what they eat, where they live, etc.

The author does a good job of not putting too much information in the book to where a child becomes confused and there are not too many big words to where the child does not understand the information.

The author also includes arrows, icons, and bold lettering to help The following book is cute informational book that goes through basic information on the giant panda.

The author also includes arrows, icons, and bold lettering to help the readers stage engaged. The pages also have vibrant colors to catch the reader's eye.

The genre of the book is informational because it contains facts and technical vocabulary. I enjoyed this book because it is definitely something that I would have read as a child and the photographs used throughout the story were appealing.

A lot of the times children will go through phases of interest and it is because of books like these. The information is easy to learn and they are able to remember the content and share it with others.

Sep 08, Christina rated it liked it Shelves: animals , juvenile , books-for-e. Another book for my niece. Nice full color photos, interesting facts, and definitions of some words with a review at the end, as well as phonetic spelling of unique words.

Well who doesn't love Pandas! And who doesn't love National Geographic? This is a great book for kids who want to learn about panda bears.

It does a great job telling us all the important information, such as habitat, diet, characteristics, etc I would place it at a 2nd grade reading level.

It talks about panda bears in depth but not on a level that is too academic. Apr 20, Jenese Wilson rated it it was amazing. I read this book to a class and they really loved learning about Pandas in a fun and informative way.

The realistic pictures added to the excitement. You learned about what Pandas eat to where they play and how they are born. I even like the little jokes and riddles included in the book.
